Why browse.nz exists.
browse.nz was born from a straightforward observation: New Zealand's small local businesses — florists, honey producers, macadamia farms, gift shops, farm-gate sellers — are being underserved by overseas platforms built for a completely different scale and context.
Shopify is a powerful tool for a growing retail operation. It's overkill, overpriced, and overcomplicated for a florist in Whangarei who just wants to take orders and deliver flowers. We know this because our first customer told us exactly that.
"I'm paying $80 a month and half the things I actually need are extra. And when I need help, I get a help article."
That conversation is what kicked this off. We already had the technical foundation — years of building serious web platforms — and we could see clearly what was missing: a platform designed from the ground up for local NZ businesses with delivery, not retrofitted for them.
Who we are.
browse.nz is built and operated by Podium Software, based in Northland, New Zealand. We've been building platforms that real businesses depend on for over a decade — systems that handle real transactions, real workflows, and real operational complexity.
Our support team has run a small business — an online travel agency operating for twelve years until Covid shut down the industry overnight. That experience matters. When you contact us with a problem, you're talking to people who've been on your side of the counter. We understand what it means to have a business riding on whether your website works on a Saturday morning.
We're based in Northland. We understand regional NZ — the pace, the community relationships, the reality that you're probably checking your orders between jobs on your phone. That's who we built browse.nz for.
